A CHINESE DUAN STONE INKSTONE CONTAINED IN A WOOD BOX AND COVER
19TH/20TH CENTURY
The stone carved to one side in relief with lion dogs, with calligraphy to the reverse, inscribed with a date corresponding to the second month of the jiazi year of the Qianlong reign, the wood box and cover decorated with a rodent and insect amongst fruiting pomegranate branches, 18cm. (3)
Provenance: formerly the collection of Florence (1920-2018) and Herbert (1917-2016) Irving, no.852, purchased from Ralph M Chait Galleries, New York, on 20th November 1982.
