A CHINESE IMARI AND FAMILLE ROSE PLATE FROM THE COLLECTION OF WILLIAM BECKFORD
18TH CENTURY
Brightly decorated with floral designs and a flowering branch in the Imari palette, with a bird and butterfly picked out in pink, green and blue enamels amidst the blossoms, the reverse with an inscription reading 'the collection of William Beckford Esq', the base with a label for the Fonthill Heirlooms, no.825, 22.5cm.
Provenance: formerly the collection of William Beckford (1760-1844); and then the collection of Alfred Morrison (1821-1897) and thence by descent to Lord Margadale of Islay, at Fonthill House, Tisbury, Wiltshire.
