QING DYNASTY
The pear-shaped body raised on a high flaring foot, cast to the exterior with flanges and decorated in relief with taotie masks and stylised animals highlighted in gold and silver, all reserved on a leiwen ground, the rope twist handle secured with beast-mask terminals, the domed cover with further flanges and taotie, surmounted by a finial, with a paper label for the Finer Collection 'CB 23', 35cm, 2.6kg. The revival of archaic bronze shapes and decoration reached its zenith in the reigns of the Yongzheng and Qianlong Emperors. The lot offered here is an imitation of an important wine vessel used for religious rituals in the late Shang Dynasty.
