The form and design of this lot is modelled after blue and white moonflasks from the Yongle period. Ming dynasty prototypes were modelled after Central Asian or Persian metallic flasks which first entered China in the Tang period. For a similar 18th century moonflask modelled after Ming dynasty wares, see Bonhams, 4th June 2015, lot 28.
