A Chinese porcelain Dutch-decorated small bowl and cover six character Yongzheng mark and of the period 1723-35, originally decorated in underglaze blue with a figure seated beside a fence beneath willow and other trees, later painted in red and green enamels with traces of gilt, with three large baskets of flowers between highlighted trees, a single peony spray disguising the character marks, the bowl's interior with a further basket of flowers, 10cm dia. Provenance: the Helen Espir Collection, no. 610. Purchased from Michael Bound, June 1997.
The rather less sympathetic over-decoration of this bowl and cover suggests perhaps a date of enamelling towards the latter part of the 18th century.
