A Japanese porcelain Dutch-decorated saucer early 18th century, originally left in the white and later-decorated in Holland with a Tea Party scene of a couple at a table beneath tall trees, the lady drinking from her saucer, the rim with a stylized ruyi head border in red and blue enamels on gilt, 11.5cm.
Provenance: the Helen Espir Collection, no. 526. Purchased from Robert McPherson, June 1996.
Illustrated: Helen Espir, European Decoration on Oriental Porcelain, p.167, pl.17.
See lot 321 for a discussion of the Tea Party scene. Note also the similarities in both the border and the style of decoration to the teabowl and saucer in lot 319.
