A Chinese porcelain Dutch-decorated coffee cup 1st half 18th century
A Chinese porcelain Dutch-decorated coffee cup 1st half 18th century, the narrow form left in the white and enamelled in Holland with a bagpiper entertaining a lady seated on low rocks beside him, within tall trees issuing from further rocks, a small village beyond, the interior with three small vignettes of a building, 6cm.
Provenance: the Helen Espir Collection, no. 921. Purchased from R & G McPherson, May 2008.
The palette and naivety of the painting style is more akin to decoration on creamware and salt-glazed stoneware, and demonstrates the progression of ceramic artists through the 18th century.
