Two Chinese porcelain Dutch-decorated tea canisters 1st half 18th century, one of chamfered square form with original lightly pencilled flower decoration between narrow diaper borders in underglaze blue, later-enamelled with birds perched on flowering branches and butterflies above other plants in the famille verte palette, the other of flattened rectangular form, later-decorated in the Kakiemon manner with a similar design of birds on branches, both with later metal covers, 11cm. (4)

Provenance: the Helen Espir Collection, nos. 763 and 626.

These two canisters were over-decorated c.1730, and are good examples of the Dutch interpretation and combination of Chinese and Japanese styles.
