A Chinese porcelain German-decorated teabowl Kangxi 1662-1722

£1,000 - £1,500 £3,000

A Chinese porcelain German-decorated teabowl Kangxi 1662-1722, originally left in the white with an underglaze blue mark of a conch shell, later-enamelled en grisaille with a continuous harbour scene of boats and buildings amongst a winding river, 7.5cm dia.

Provenance: the Helen Espir Collection, no. 607. Purchased from E & H Manners, June 1997.

The fineness of the decoration on the teabowl indicates it was decorated by a senior hausmaler, perhaps Ignaz Preissler or Johann Ludwig Faber.
