The Helen Espir Collection - 12 Nov 2014
A Chinese porcelain English-decorated small jug and spoon tray 1st half 18th century
A Chinese porcelain English-decorated small jug and spoon tray 1st half 18th century, originally left in the white and later-enamelled in the London ateliers with European flowers including rose and tulip beside large butterflies and small single sprigs, 13cm max. (2)
Provenance: the Helen Espir Collection, nos.348 and 613.
The rounded petals and black dots on the wings of the butterflies place the decoration into the 'Type B' bracket and suggest it was the work of the workshop of James Giles.
