A rare Chinese tixi lacquer rectangular tray 15th/early16th century

A rare Chinese tixi lacquer rectangular tray 15th/early16th century, finely carved through alternate layers of black and red lacquer, the upper surface with a stylized ruyi design, the reverse with further scroll work, all on a shaped foot, two character mark to the base, 37.1cm. Cf. S Kwan, Chinese Lacquer, no.60 for a similar tixi black lacquer tray which is dated to the mid-Ming.
