Two large Chinese fahua seated figures of monks second half 16th century, one holding a fan and decorated with turquoise and aubergine glazes, the other wearing a honey-coloured robe and with an inscription to the reverse including the date corresponding to 1590, both with damages and restoration, 46cm. (2) Provenance: an English private collection reputedly purchased from John Sparks Ltd. Cf. Riddell, Dated Chinese Antiquities 600-1650, nos.113 and 114 for similar figures dated 1577, see also Roger Keverne Winter Exhibition 2012, no.40 for a related figure of a luohan.
