A Chinese embellished lacquer rectangular box Kangxi 1662-1722, covered overall in a dark brown lacquer and inset with mother of pearl, soapstone, lapis lazuli and other materials, decorated with boys playing beneath pine and plantain, the top with a bird perched on a flowering magnolia branch, the sides with scholars' objects, the hinged lid and pair of doors revealing an arrangement of drawers, three decorated with laque burgauté, the base with scrolling dragons, old restoration and repairs, 34cm x 35.5cm.
