A JAPANESE KOMAI IRON PLATE

C.1880

Decorated in nunome zogan (gold and silver inlays) with seven circular panels, the central one depicting a confronting dragon amongst flaming wisps, the others with brocade patterns, kacho-ga (flowers, birds and butterflies) scenes and a landscape with buildings amongst clouds, reserved on a ground of rinzu (textile-weave) designs, the rim with a band of grape vines, the base signed Kyoto no ju Komai sei (Made by Komai of Kyoto), 27.5cm.
