A CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE OVOID VASE

20TH CENTURY

Painted on one side with the bearded painter Ni Zan and his attendant cleaning a wutong tree in a fenced garden, with the foliage extending up to the flared neck, the base with a mark reading Yang he tang zhi, together with a wooden box inscribed by Peter Wain, 27.5cm.

Provenance: an English private collection, Bristol, and by repute, purchased from Peter Wain.

Illustrated: Arts of Asia, November-December 1991, p.8. This mark is discussed with the owner in a letter from Simon Kwan dated 1990, a copy of the letter is available.
