A PAIR OF CHINESE WUCAI 'JOURNEY TO THE WEST' BEAKER VASES, GU
SHUNZHI 1644-1661
Each painted with a scene from Xi You Ji, depicting Tang Sanzang, Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, Sha Wujing accompanied by ladies on a garden terrace, the central and lower sections decorated with chrysanthemums, peonies and fruiting branches, all below a cracked-ice border encircling the mouth, the base unglazed, 49.5cm. (2)
Provenance: from a British private collection, purchased from Richard Peters Antiques and Works of Art, London, on 13th November 2002, a copy of the original invoice is available.
