£4,000 - £6,000 £4,200

A large and fine Chinese celadon jade carving of a recumbent horse 18th/19th century, with its head turned back, the mane and tail finely defined, and the hooves crisply carved and tucked beneath the body, the stone with natural flaws running beneath the body, 15.5cm. Cf. Chinese Jade Throughout the Ages, an exhibition organised by the Arts Council of Great Britain and the Oriental Ceramic Society, 1975, p.18 for related models of recumbent horses. The horse, ma, is a symbol of speed and persistence.
