A RARE JAPANESE LACQUER WINE BOTTLE AND A FUBAKO (LETTER BOX AND COVER)
EDO OR MEIJI, 19TH CENTURY

The unusual container of tall rectangular form, richly decorated in gold lacquer and mother of pearl inlays on the roiro black lacquer ground, with patterns of fans amongst flowers and grasses, three butterflies to the side and a short cylindrical spout at the top; the long rectangular box and cover with lacquer and mother of pearl chrysanthemum mon, 21cm x 11.5cm x 22cm and 6.8cm x 7.5cm x 24.5cm respectively.
