AN UNUSUAL CHINESE DOUCAI ROULEAU VASE

KANGXI 1662-1722

The cylindrical body painted with four Immortals riding on the backs of mythical creatures amongst crashing waves and rockwork, the shoulder with a band of lotus panels on a cell ground beneath concentric ruyi and key fret bands, 45.2cm.

Provenance: from the collection of David Ferguson Esq. Formerly in the collection of Professor D R Laurence MD, purchased from D & M Freedman.

Cf. Christie's Hong Kong, 27th May 2009, lot 1880 for another Kangxi doucai rouleau vase of similar size.
