A rare Chinese bronze figure of a monk, dated 1631. Seated in dhyanasana mudra, his hands in samadhi mudra, holding a large pearl, he wears loosely flowing robes, tied at his waist, a twenty-three character mark inside the base, together with a modern wood stand, 22cm. (2) Da-ming chong-zhen xin-wei meng-dong ji-dan di-zi zhou-shi tong-nan Gu Tian-yu bai-zai sheng-xiang. (Made in the Xinwei year of the Chongzhen reign of the great Ming dynasty on an auspicious day of the first moon of winter. Tong-nan, together with her son Gu Tian-yu, respectfully made this sacred statue).
