A Chinese mother of pearl

A Chinese mother of pearl, ivory and lacquer box and cover, inscribed 'Qianlong yu wan'. Formed as crouching quail with its head turned to the side, the cover disguised in the plumage to its back and set with a mother of pearl tablet, together with a hardwood stand, minor losses, 9cm. (2) Cf. Lot 59, 11th November 2009, for a similar pair of boxes and covers sold in these rooms.
