A good pair of huanghuali and burr elm armchairs, 18th century. The backs and arms inset with five panels carved in high relief with birds perched on flowering branches issuing from rocks, the aprons crisply carved with stylized taotie masks and raised on straight legs terminating in square scrolls, some restoration, 89.5cm. (2) Cf. T Jiaqing, Classic Chinese Furniture of the Qing Dynasty, cat. no. 48 for a related zitan and inlaid burlwood armchair.
