A rare Chinese armorial saucer c.1750, decorated with the arms of William MacLennon, Lord Kircudbright, within a wide floral border in gilt, red and black, 11.9cm. Provenance: the Cecil Bullivant collection, Phillips, March 1988, lot 310. The Clifford Henderson collection. Exhibited: the English Ceramics Circle, Armorials Exhibition 2008. Label to the reverse. Illustrated: D S Howard, Chinese Armorial Porcelain, p.607. This is one of only two known services where the owner omitted to remove his title from the bookplate which was sent out to China. The bookplate is preserved in the British Museum.
