A massive pair of Chinese bottle vases Guangxu 1875-1908, each richly decorated in gilt with a dragon and phoenix contesting flaming pearls on a ground of cloud scrolls, the flared necks with similar designs between borders of ruyi, shou and auspicious symbols all on a blue ground, the bases with sic character Kangxi marks in a rectangule between confronting enamelled dragons, one with damage to the neck, 59cm. (2) Provenance: the collection of Edward Hayes Oxley, purchased in Shanghai, c.1900. For a much smaller pair with similar decoration see Christie's New York, Friday 25th March 2011, lot 1679.
