Ma Shaoxuan (1867–1939), one of the most technically accomplished artists of the Beijing School of Snuff Bottle Painting, is known for his figural scenes, monochromatic portraits, and depictions of collections of fragmentary paintings and calligraphic inscriptions, on his snuff bottles. This snuff bottle, featuring paintings and ink rubbings showcases his mastery of classical calligraphic styles. For a closely related example, see Christie's New York, 21st March 2013, lot 1088.
