A rare Chinese red sandstone head of Buddha Northern Song dynasty 960-1127 AD, the oval face carved with downcast eyes and a serene expression, the hair neatly arranged in an unusual complex network of interwoven plaits above an indented urna, the full face with protruding lips framed by elongated earlobes, mounted on a modern plinth, 25cm.
