A CHINESE EMBROIDERED SILK TUNIC
QING DYNASTY
Decorated in silk and gold thread with dragons above crashing waves and lotus, with bats and auspicious objects around them amidst ruyi head-shaped clouds, the reverse with phoenix, with civil rank badges of a silver pheasant for a fifth rank official, 87cm across, 99cm long.
Provenance: from the collection of Rosalind Clemson (d.1940s). Rosalind and her husband Rev. Studderd (b.1870) were both missionaries in Fujian in the late 19th c.
