A Chinese scroll painting depicting a hwamei bird perched on a prunus tree, with peony sprays in the foreground, ink and colour on silk, inscribed and dated the jiawu year, signed Chen Shu, with two artist's seals, which read nanlou and Chen Shu zhixin.
From the collection of Jean Brediam (d.1949), who was the Director General of the Municipal Services of the French Concession in Shanghai until 1940. In 1946, he returned to China and was appointed the Head of the Shanghai office of the French Economic Mission.
