A Chinese bronze model of Xuan Wu late Ming dynasty, seated and raised on a plinth with elaborate dragon robes, his long hair flowing down his back, a turtle encircled by a snake at his feet, together with a gilt hardwood stand, 31.3cm. (2)

Xuan Wu is one of the higher-ranking Taoist deities, able to control the elements, and is most often depicted seated wearing Imperial robes, with his right foot stepping on a snake and his left resting on a turtle.
