A Chinese Imperial yellow ground New Year's medallion bowl six character Daoguang mark and of the period 1821-50, the interior painted in underglaze blue with three goats beneath a prunus tree encircled by four auspicious sprays, the exterior with three roundels of goats divided by vases of flowers and auspicious things on a scrolling sgraffito ground, 14.7cm.

Three goats shown together are representative of the New Year, bringing a change of fortune (sanyang kaitai).
