A good Chinese pale celadon jade carving of a pair of Mandarin ducks 18th/early 19th century, sitting together on a large lotus leaf, holding flower stems in their beaks, their feathers finely detailed, the stone with paler mottling, a wood stand, 9.5cm. (2)

Provenance: a European private collection, purchased from Spink & Son in the 1950s.

Mandarin ducks, yuanyang, depicted together with lotus, he, are representative of the wish for a harmonious marriage and illustrious sons.
