A RARE CHINESE REVERSE GLASS PAINTING
LATE 18TH CENTURY
Depicting Madame de Pompadour in an interior, wearing an Oriental costume, seated while working on an embroidery panel chatting to her attendant. The scene is after the 'Sultan's Wife Embroidering', a painting from 1747 by Charles-André van Loo (1705-1765), framed and glazed, 46.5cm x 51.5cm.
Provenance: purchased at J Sparks, London in the late 1960s.
