λ A RARE SINO-TIBETAN SILVER-MOUNTED RITUAL CONCH SHELL
QING DYNASTY

The left-spiralling shell with a dedicatory inscription in Manchu and Chinese reading jintian fenghua Qianlong shisan nian Gandan si Renshang Renboqie jingzhi with the date for the Qianlong 13th year (corresponding to 1749), mounted as a trumpet with a mouthpiece opening at the base of the shell, the silver mounts with repoussé and chased decoration depicting dragons, precious objects and floral scrolls, further embellished with coral and turquoise cabochons, together with a metal stand, 19.5cm. (2)
