The cover decorated with a landscape scene depicting a pavilion in the foreground with scholarly figures playing weiqi and strolling on a terrace, while on the left dignitaries on horseback and their attendants cross a bridge before a group of figures sailing on a sampan, all painted in black with traces of old gilding, the sides inset with woven bamboo panels and decorated with gilt key frets to the rims, the base lacquered black and inscribed in gilt Qing Yuan Fu and in red lacquer 'L.435.47', the interior also lacquered black and inscribed to the reverse of the cover Qing Yuan Fu and 'L.435.47.A', with fifteen square red and black lacquered trays, the bases with the inscriptions Qing and 'L.435.47.B' to 'L.435.47.P', 49.5cm overall.
