A pair of Chinese blue and white octagonal bowls c.1640, each with eight reticulated panels between bands of prunus blossom, waves and ruyi heads, the bases unglazed, 11.6cm. (2) Provenance: a private American collection in California, purchased from John Berwald, 21st March 1994. Cf. J. Harrison-Hall, Ming Ceramics in The British Museum, col. pl. 12:41, 12:42 for an identical pair recovered from the Hatcher shipwreck of c.1643.
