POSSIBLY LIANGZHU CULTURE

The square-section body carved with two tiers of stylised mask motifs to the corners, separated by plain vertical bands running down the sides, drilled through the centre, the stone mottled with light inclusions, 4cm.

Cf. Zhongguo chutu yuqi quanji (Complete Collection of Jades Unearthed in China), vol.8, p.32, for a five-tiered example now in the collection of the Haining Museum, Jiaxing.
