A CHINESE CELADON AND RUSSET JADE 'THREE RAMS' GROUP
SONG-MING DYNASTY

Depicting a large, recumbent ram accompanied by two young rams, one resting on its side and the other on its back, the opaque stone with dark brown and minor calcified markings, 7.7cm.

Provenance: Christie's London, 16th November 1999, lot 8.

The image of three rams, or san yang, is auspicious and forms the rebus san yang kai tai, which symbolises the New Year bringing renewal and a change of fortune.
