Highlights of the sale include a collection of Chinese paintings gifted to Field Marshal Archibald Percival Wavell in May 1943 by a variety of notable Chinese military figures (lots 2001 – 2006). These include Yu Dawei’s gifts of a Xu Beihong scroll painting of a War Horse (lot 2005) and a Jiang Tingxi scroll painting of Squirrels and Goldfish (lot 2004), along with a Chen Zhifo scroll painting of Mandarin Ducks in a Lotus Pond gifted by He Yingqin (lot 2006).
The sale will also feature ceramics, including a large Transitional period blue and white cylindrical brushpot from an important British private collection (lot 2031).
Other highlights consist of a fine Mongolian gilt bronze sculpture of Amitayus (lot 2051), a good 18th century zitan kang table (lot 2069) and a large Qianlong/Jiaqing period famille rose sgraffito ruby-ground ‘Qin Qi Shu Hua’ vase (lot 2094).
