A CHINESE IRON-RED AND GRISAILLE-ENAMELLED 'DRAGON AND PHOENIX' BOWL
QING DYNASTY
Painted with a five-claw dragon and a phoenix chasing a flaming pearl, surrounded by stylised ruyi clouds and flames, the interior decorated with five bats and a shou character to the centre, painted en grisaille and highlighted in gilt, all raised on a short straight foot, 22.7cm.
Provenance: from the collection of Mr Geoffrey R Sayer (1887-1962), purchased in Hong Kong in the 1920s-1930s.
