A LARGE CHINESE UNDERGLAZE BLUE AND RED 'CHICKENS AND POMEGRANATES' VASE, MEIPING

19TH CENTURY

The ovoid body tapering towards the foot and surmounted by a short waisted neck, decorated with a cockerel and four hens beneath a fruiting pomegranate tree, the large fruits detailed with areas of their skin peeled back revealing the many seeds inside, with a paper label for Hugh M Moss Ltd to the base, together with a bronze and wood stand formed from two sections, 53.4cm. Provenance: from an English private collection, West Yorkshire, formed in the 1970s and 1980s, purchased from Hugh Moss.
