A Chinese hardwood armchair, the solid back with a central European crest inscribed 'Prudentia Et Animis' encircled by dragons, the back, legs and sides carved with further dragons and shou characters, 19th / early 20th century, 86.5cm.
The crest is that of Indian Army Major Charles Steele of the XIII Hussars. The chair was possibly commissioned to celebrate his marriage in 1912.
