A Chinese aged pine bamboo libation cup, imitating a rhinoceros horn example, with a silvered copper liner, the exterior naturalistically carved to simulate a section of a pine tree, with gnarled branches and clusters of needles, covering nodules and scales representing tree bark, 18th century, 14.5cm. Cf. Chapman, The Art of Rhinoceros Horn Carving in China, no.377, p.260 for a similar bamboo cup in the Staatliches Museum fur Volkerkunde, Munich; and another, illustrated: Small Refined Articles of the Study, The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum. no.9.
