A good Chinese blanc de Chine figure of the Bodhisattva Guanyin

£5,000 - £8,000

A good Chinese blanc de Chine figure of the Bodhisattva Guanyin, seated and resting her right arm on her knee, carrying a scroll in her left hand, her hair kept in place by a jui-headed hairpin, indecipherable four character seal mark, 18th century or later, 25cm. Together with a wood stand. (2) The Bodhisattva Guanyin was particularly worshipped by women; her name meaning 'one who listens to the cries of the world'. Cf. P. J. Donnelly, Blanc de Chine, p.85, fig. B. for a similar seated figure holding a jui sceptre.
