A fine pair of Chinese mother of pearl

A fine pair of Chinese mother of pearl, ivory and lacquer boxes and covers, formed as crouching quail, their heads turned to the sides, each with a disguised cover to its back and set with a mother of pearl tablet inscribed 'Qianlong yu wan', 9.5cm. Together with hardwood stands and a fitted box. (6) Provenance: From the collection of the Reverend Victor Farmer. Exhibited by the Oriental Ceramic Society, Loan Exhibition, The Arts of the Ch'ing Dynasty, 1964. Catalogue number 386. These are boxes relate closely to a pair of Qianlong duck boxes and covers anonymously donated to the Metropolitan Museum in 1956.
