A large Japanese wood carving of Gama-Sennin, the god stands contemplating his toad holding a gnarled staff, the base with three lines of calligraphy, minor repairs, 60cm. Gama-Sennin is a benign Japanese sage who is always accompanied by a toad and can assume the shape of a snake, or change his skin and become young again. He possesses the secret of immortality.
