A good Khmer sandstone carving of Avalokitesvara, the face with incised eyes and pronounced lips, the elongated ears with pierced lobes, the cylindrical chignon composed of plaited bands, a seated figure of Amitabha Buddha in front, a flowerhead carved on the top. The right arm well restored through the shoulder. c.10th century, 28.5cm.
Provenance: Purchased from Austins Co. Ltd Gallery of Oriental Art, Bangkok in the 1970's.
