A rare Chinese blanc de Chine European family group, modelled with a European man wearing a hat, sitting with a woman, their son and daughter to either side. Some restoration. Kangxi c.1710, 15.5cm. Across. Cf. D S Howard, The Choice of the Private Trader, no. 294 for a similar group. This was probably the most popular blanc de Chine figure group of Europeans and is one which has a number of variations, some with one of the figures omitted, but always with the same European man. The name later given to the group as being of 'Governer Duff', the Dutch Governer-general of the East India company, 1729-31, is of little foundation. An example of this model was in the Dresden collection.
