A Chinese long gua robe, for a high ranking noblemen, the black silk ground embroidered with eight dragon rondels above a sea wave border, the lower sleeves with smaller dragon rondels, late 19th century. Cf. Splendours of China's Forbidden City, no.62 for an Imperial Formal Surcoat in the Field Museum of similar design.
