A pair of Chinese famille rose bowls, each finely enamelled with fruiting bitter melon vines, bamboo and butterflies, four character Hongxian marks and probably of the period, 16.6cm. (2) Cf. Stacey Pierson, Designs as Signs: Decorations and Chinese Ceramics, no. 20 for a bowl decorated with this design, where the fruit is described as a Buddha's hand citron.
