A good Japanese ivory carving of two warriors, one standing with flowing robes, leaning on his bow and holding a wreath, a quiver and sword to his back, the other kneeling, resting his hand on a large sword, the base strewn with chrysanthemum, raised on a wood stand, 5 character mark for Kinobu, Meiji 1868-1912, 13cm. (2) Provenance: gifted to General Hopkinson in the late 19th century, from the Summer Palace, Peking.
